A Quick Word…

Well, after a slightly longer wait than usual, here is the latest issue of the monthly mailing list Madpost. For those of you who are still here during these Summer days, or for those of you who have recently joined, I’d like to say a thankyou for hanging in there and helping to make the list trundle along during its usual quiet period.

You may notice that this Madpost is alot shorter than the previous issue was. I think this is also due to the fact that all (or most) of the UK students have buggered off till late September or early October. If you’ve got some news, gossip or articles that you feel may be worth including in August’s edition of the Madpost, please get in touch with me (address at the bottom) and I’ll be happy to include it. All you webmasters out there, please send me a mail telling me what material can be found on your site, and perhaps send me a description of your site (how long has it been running, list of major changes etc) and if I get enough responses I’ll do my best to produce a ‘website roundup’ for the next edition of the Madpost.

Finally, for all of you Nut Inc subscribers out there, I thought you’d be happy to know that the July edition of the ‘zine is almost complete. Stuart tells me that he’s just waiting for some last minute typing and artwork to be completed before the issue goes off to the presses and is then dispatched around the world. For all your Nut Inc information please pay a visit to the Nut Inc pages at: http://www.jabba.demon.co.uk/nutinc/.

Anyway, enough of my waffle, I’ll let you get reading.

Have a nutty summer,

Robert Hazelby

Denver SKA Website

I know it’s not really Madness related, but since Paul Andrews is a mailing list Maddie I thought it wouldn’t hurt to promote his small website that he’s put put together.

The site only really deals with the Denver scene so it is small. If you’d like to take a look then the URL is:

http://stripe.colorado.edu/~andrewsp/ska.htm

Or you can e-mail Paul at: paul.andrews@colorado.edu

Ed’s April Madmeet Photo’s

After what seems like an age of waiting, there are finally pictures from the April Madmeet available for viewing on the net. I’ll let Gaz explain…

Hiya all,

I have scanned in Ed’s (the Maddies currently residing in Hemel Hempsted) photo’s from the Madmeet held on the 19th April.

You can check them out at: http://www.clubi.ie/gem/edspics/

Madness Interviews

Here’s a quickie that Darren posted to the list way back at the start of June…

There are currently a number of interesting Madness interviews posted on Complete & Utter Madness:

Here are just a few :

A day in the life of Lee Thompson (circa 1982)

Mike Barson interviewed at Stiff Headquarters (circa 1981)

Lee Thompson interviewed on location in the Dublin Castle during filming of ‘Take It Or Leave It’

Chrissy boy remembers Mike and their childhood years together

The trip to Great Yarmouth was actually Lee’s idea…

What do Virgin Think They’re Doing?

Obviously Yvette Reader has alot of time on her hands. If not, I’m assuming that she’s just got a poetic flair and this is something that she knocked up in about 5 minutes.

Other people posted heated mails to the list when they heard that Virgin were cracking down on ‘unofficial’ Madness websites, not Yvette, she’d rather say it with a poem…

What do Virgin think they’re doing?
Taking Madness from our viewing
All the hard work of Madness fans
Devoted followers of the band
They say “it’s breach of copyright”
And rub their hands in gleeful spite
They claim to ‘own’ the Nutty Sound
And order “take those websites down!”

Why should websites be removed?
Virgin are the ones who’ll lose
All websites give is advertising
No money made, no profits rising

But Virgin play their little game
Cashing in on our band’s fame
Trying to make us Maddies pay
Just so we can have our say

But we won’t let them take their ‘share’
For policies which are so unfair
So Maddies of the World unite
And don’t give up without a fight!

Grooviness…..

Yvette

Madness Release – 1998!

I have just read in a very reliable source (The Sunday Broadsheet ‘The Observer’ no less!) that Madness are a one of a number of groups who have contributed tracks to Noel Coward album for release in Easter ’98.

Paul Russell,
Planets Saved, Goals Scored, All-Round Good Bloke.

Madness Windows ’95 Screensaver

If you’ve got a desire to have the lads running around on your P.C in one form or another then may I suggest you pay a visit to Jordan’s website and download his Madness screensaver for Windows ’95.

Jordan says that “It’s not brilliant, but it is a start”, and who are we to disagree with the lad?

If you’d like to try the Madness screensaver on your system then you can download it from the following URL:

Mailing List Meet 3 – August 1997

If you’re planning to come to the meetup being held in London during mid August then please could you get in touch with me at robert@jabba.demon.co.uk to let me know that we need to wait for you outside Camden Town Tube Station.

Not heard about this meet? Well, let me give you a few background details…

The date for the meet is Saturday 16th August, and our initial rendezvous will be outside the right hand exit as you come out of Camden Town Tube Station. The time is 11:30am although we will probably wait till around 12:00 for any late comers. After that we’ll be moving on.

The plans for the day are a little more detailed than the previous meet held back in April as a fair number of people coming to this meet turned up to the previous one. You can be sure that the ‘Dublin Castle’ pub will be one port of call on our travels, and Simon Roberts tells me that he’d like to go to ‘Orange Street’ to get some photos. Apart from those plans, we’ll probably just play it by ear and fumble along during the course of the day.

Onward and Upward

And so ends another issue of the Mailing List Madpost.

Hopefully the next issue should be a bit chunkier, what with many Maddies preparing for the August Madmeet, ready to descend on Camden Town from all corners of the globe.

If you do have anything which you feel may be worth including in the next issue of the Madpost, feel free to get in touch with me (address in the sig) and I’ll be happy to put it in.

Until then, take it easy, and I’ll speak to you on the list.

Robert
