Monthly Madpost – January 1997

Hiya all, and welcome to 1997!

At the time of writing (December 22nd 1996), most of the students who are subscribed to the list have gone home. This mass exodus has resulted in a huge drop in posts to the list.

For all you new subscribers, don’t worry, when they return around mid Jan 1997, they should be ready to start another year of top Madness related antics. Until then, sit back and strain your eyes with the latest issue of the mailing list Madpost which seems alot shorter than in previous months.

SUGGS APPEARS ON BBC’S”NEVERMIND THE BUZZCOCKS”

Hiya all,

Just sat through last nights (Tues) “Nevermind The Buzzcocks” which I recorded on video.

For those who aren’t familiar with what it is. It’s a music/comdey quiz with 2 teams. Each team has a comedian as a team leader and then two other members of the team who can be a comdeian or musician and these change weekly.

This week one of the guests was Suggs, and along with some other pretty amusing guests it turned out to be much, much better than the previous episode(s).

One of the best bits was a video clip of a chart countdown on “Top of the pops”. The guest reading out the charts had a really bad lisp, well, it Chris Eubank! and one of the teams had to guess what happened next. They got it right,

“at number 5 it was Sthugth withh thethealia”, most amusing :)

Suggs also did some amusing renditions of pop songs such as “Ghost Town” by the Specials for one of the rounds.

But, after a valiant effort by Suggs and his 2 teammates they managed to be runners-up.

All in all, pretty funny and I’m glad I recorded it

SUGGS CONCERT CANCELLED!
Below is a little snippet from Christopher Byrne who earlier in December posted the below article to the list relating to one of Suggs concerts being cancelled!

Rumours spread through the group that this was the first of many of Suggs’ concerts that were going to be cancelled. As far as I know all the others went ahead.

Hi all,

Just to let you know that the first Suggs concert this Sunday at the Island in Ilford is cancelled. And won’t be re-scheduled. This is because a bouncer at the club was shot dead there last Saturday. The club is still bordered up. Anyone who has tickets can either get their money back or exchange them for the Specials show there next week.

SONG OF THE WEEK ON HOLD DURING THE CHRISTMAS VACATION
Here’s a little snippet from Richard (SOTW) Pountney…

Hello all you nutty lot,

Sorry for the absence of SOTW for the past couple of weeks. I don’t really have an excuse apart from absence mind. Sorry. However, one of my new years resolutions is to sort my E-mail out, so SOTW should be a regular *Weekly* thing from January onwards. :)

SOTW will return in the new year when a lot of you get back to university.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Nutty New year,

Rich… (richard@chut.demon.co.uk)

THAT’S YER LOT!

Well, I said that this months Madpost would be alot shorter than in previous months so it should come as little surprise to you that we’ve reached the end already.

If anyone managed to go along to one of the Suggs christmas concerts and fancies doing a review for inclusion in the Feb issue of the Madpost could they please get in touch with me and we’ll sort something out.

Hopefully there will be alot more stuff to put into next months issue of the Madpost. But, until then, goodnight,

Robert
