[1] - THE EDITOR WRITES

Evening Mads.

Hope life is treating everyone well.

Remember the forthcoming Madness book, `Don't Watch That, Watch
This`? Well, if the information displayed on the amazon.co.uk
website has any truth in it, the release date for the paperback
will be on November 20th, priced at £14.99.

Many thanks to Simon Mulvaney for keeping us all informed.

Heads-up Velvet Ghost fans. News just in from the legendary Vince
Foley reports that the tracks for the forthcoming album are almost
complete, with 16 in all. Fans after an album full of only new
material, will be pleased to hear that there will be NO Madness
tracks featuring on the forthcoming release.

As we heard from Cathal a week or two back, the plans for a Madness
musical are very much in the early stages at present, but Vince now
tells us that the show will most likely feature a mixture of old and
new tracks as the band have to come up with a ballad.

Thanks go to Vince for the news.

Since the report in last week's edition of the MIS that long-time net
based Maddie, Chris Byrne had set up a website, he's been busy this
week making a few more alterations. 1997 now includes Total Madness,
there is now a second links page and some updated news on the
homepage. Chris also reports that if everything goes to plan,
hopefully the first competition will be going up on the pages in a
couple of weeks time. He just needs to pop down to Camden to pick
something up.

In the meantime, you can check out these new additions yourself by
going along to: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~cjbyrne/MadNet/
Thanks go to Chris for the update.

Following on from the recent news that a certain Mr. McPherson has
been providing voice-overs for the current run of Fairy Liquid
adverts here in the UK, it seems that the DIY chain MFI have also
roped old Suggs into helping them out with some speech snippets as
well. Perhaps this venture into advertising will be the shape of
things to come?

Many thanks to Richard Pountney for the info.

Some Night Fever news now, and Chris Carter-Pegg tells me that for
the forthcoming series of the Channel Five music quiz show a number
of episodes have been shot on location in sunny Majorca. Teams
include Anna Ryder Richardson, Handy Andy, Frank Bruno, Keith Chegwin
etc. and also a welcome return to Gail Porter! For more information
please visit the Channel 5 website at www.channel5.co.uk.

Well, that's about all for this weeks collection of news snippets, so
I'll leave you to read the articles.

All the best

Robert Hazelby (MIS Online Editor)

[2] - CHANNEL FOUR TOP 100

Fancy the opportunity of helping Madness get their name in lights and
the acclaim they so rightly deserve? If so, get yourself along to the
Channel Four Website at: http://www.channel4.co.uk. Once there,
simply click on the face of that hyperactive and effeminate chat show
presenter, Graham Norton, where you will whisked over to a new page.

Once the new page has loaded, you have at your fingertips, the chance
to vote for your favourite top ten singles of all time. Finally, for
those of you out there who don't mind cheating, Suzie Wilkins reports
that by simply clicking `back` once you have voted, you get the
chance to do it again and again. Not that Suzie is suggesting you
should do that of course!

Well, what are you waiting for? Get yourself over there now and get
voting! The fate of earth is in your hands (or something like that!).

Many thanks to Chris Mountain and Suzie Wilkins for the information.

[3] - MADNESS IN HARRY POTTER SHOCKER!

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past year or so,
you'll know that the Harry Potter series of books, penned by Chipping
Sodbury's J.K Rowling (my home town is finally on the map!) has
become such a phenomenon that the production of a full-scale movie is
just about to start.

There's obviously a few fans lurking out there on the Total Madness
Mailing List who are following the film as a mail appeared on the
list during the week saying that a friend of one of the subscribers
who works for Warner Bothers had heard that Madness had been
approached to be involved with the upcoming Harry Potter Soundtrack
with that oh-so-catchy of track, `The Wizard`.

Being somewhat of a regular contributor to threads in the past couple
of weeks, a certain Mr. Smash tapped out the following reply in
response to the mail;

"about this "Madness involved in the Harry Potter film".
Having read all the Potter books ( after my son had
read'em first), and being interested in things of an
esoteric nature...twas I the Smash who thought it might
be cool to get the Wizard included in the film...but
as far as I know nothing has happened.....and as the
dude wot wrote it i would be very happy if it was
included....I am crossing my fingers...in fact I think
I will ring our publisher and see what they are doing
about it........see you all later and have a happy
      halloween...

       Mr. Smash"

Hopefully Cathal will keep us all informed with regards to the
progress as `The Wizard` would make a blummin' superb title track
for the film.

Many thanks for keeping us all in the know.

[4] - MAKE THE DAY GO WITH A CRUNCH

If you're planning to come along to the Crunch gig in London on
Saturday October 14th and you've still not got yourself a ticket,
you'd better get your proverbial arse in gear and start making
enquiries as unsold tickets are sure to be close to running out.

For online sales, please visit the Ticketmaster website at:
http://www.ticketmaster.co.uk where you can buy online, or
alternatively phone the Garage Box office on: 020 7344 0044

If you're one of the many who have already secured your ticket, then
sit back and feel a little smug as you're not having to run round at
the last minute trying to find the last unsold few.

For those of you who like to make a bit of a day of things, you'll be
pleased to know that the living legend that is Swanny, has
organised a pre-Crunch meet at 4pm on the day of the show. As far as
I know, the meet location will be in the pub nearby.

For further information, please contact Swanny at:
swanny at crunch.uk.com

beyond'.

[8] - UNTIL NEXT WEEK

That's another week done and dusted. A big thank you to everyone who
was kind enough to send me bits and pieces for this weeks issue -
much appreciated!!

As usual, if anyone out there has anything suitable for the next
issue, please send it along and I'll do my best to make sure it gets
in.

If all goes according to plan and Vincent Carden sends them out in
time, then next the issue of the MIS will feature a review of the
latest issue of the fantastic `Madness Unsugged` fanzine. As well as
that, expect a full lowdown of next Saturdays Crunch gig which, if
the reviews of previous gigs are anything to go by, should be
something very special.

Until then. Take care, and I'll speak to you next Sunday.

All the best,

Robert Hazelby
