5- LOS PALMAS 6 - LATEST TOUR NEWS - The newest Madness tribute band
   to hit the pub and club circuit, Los Palmas 6 seem to be lining 
   up a varied tour programme over the next 6 weeks. With the band 
   playing in numerous locations across the country, it should give 
   some of you the opportunity to see what the Magnificent 6 are like.

Before we get this issue underway, I had better clear things up with 
all those people who mailed me asking for more information regarding
the Madness world tour mentioned in last week's edition of the MIS
Bulletin. I'm sure the majority of you realised that Simon Roberts
had quite cleverly put together a little April Fool's joke complete
with mock-up promo sleeve on his website.

In a recent E-mail to the `Total Madness Mailing List`, Simon Roberts
reported that he was receiving so many enquiries from people asking
for copies of this non-existent promo and more info about the tour,
that he had to put a disclaimer on his website (www.ntmml.co.uk) 
informing people that it was indeed only an April fools joke.

Please feel free to kill Simon (for starting this rumour) and myself
(for printing this rumour here for a laugh) if and when you see us
next!

Moving on, and the ball continues to roll with regards to Scatty's
Madness festival pencilled-in for later in the year. The whole day
will be a charity event, with proceeds going to Cancer Bacup, the
charity Ian Dury put so much of his time and effort into. Since
the sad loss of Ian Dury last week, the event has now been dubbed
TMML ID Day. The event will start at 12noon on Saturday 11th of
June and will go on till around 1am.

Since last week, a simple website has been uploaded to keep all
Madness fans up to date on the going's on surrounding what promises
to be a truly memorable day.

     "Hope you are all well.

      Thanks for the support about ID (Ian Dury) day.
      The fund raiser for Cancer Bacup. I know the 
      site is pants at the moment but It will get 
      better. 

      I'm juggling this as well as work and many 
      personnel problems so please bare with us. 

      Anyway the site is for your information. It 
      is not going to be glitzy. But I take the 
      point, it does need work. And yes, I did 
      see those spelling mistakes.

      I must not drink while working!"

The number of people offering their help and support for this event 
seems to be reaching truly mammoth proportions. As well as a large
chunk of the online Madness community offering assistance, big name
contributions include;

     - Gilad Atzman. (who toured with the blockheads)
     - Terry Edwards. (who has recorded & appeared with madness) 
     - Virgin Music.
     - Tristan Olivia. (grandson of lord Olivia)
     - The Kings Appeal.

In recent weeks the weekly Monday Madness Chats held at `About.Com`
have been really, really quiet with next to no Maddies turning up
at all. If you'd like to pop along to next Monday's chat, click to
www.ska.about.com and get chatting. Two chat sessions are held so
that the majority of people can get along to at least one. The times
are as follows:

Session 1 - 3pm EST (for the Statesiders) 8pm BST (for the UK Mads)

Following hot on the heels of Channel Five's music show, `Night 
Fever`, the Madness frontman hopped over to BBC1 to take the part of
team captain in the new music quiz show, `A Question of Pop`. Aired
on Saturday at 6pm, it means you can watch this before flicking over
to channel 5 to catch Suggs hosting Night Fever. It may be mindless
fun, but certainly a great way to kick off your Saturday night's.

Some bad news now, and those of you waiting for the rumoured US tour
and Madstock 5 will be saddened to learn that both of the events will
NOT be taking place after all. Here's Vince Foley;

     "I can confirm 100% that ther will be NO 
      MADSTOCK or US Tour this year.

      That is the final word...unfortunately
      ....summer just won't be the same:("

Many of you are familiar with the age-old TV series, `This is Your
Life` which nine times out of ten features someone so completely
boring that you just have to change the channel. Well, for once I
can assure you that you'll have the blank video in the player all
set to record this one. Last Saturday, the legendary Suggs recorded
an edition of the show which should be aired in the next couple of
weeks. Apparently, there are only two shows left in the series
which will be aired on the following dates:

     - Monday 10th April
     - Monday 17th April

Remember the Madness documentary being filmed and put-together
towards the end of last year? Well, news just in is that the show has
now been put back till September. A definite date has still not been
decided, but as soon as we get it, we'll let you know. Thanks to

Onto this week's articles now. And following the sad loss of Ian Dury
last week, we have an article from the BBC website covering the 
funeral which was held on Wednesday. As expected, so many people came
to pay their respects that the service held in the church was also
broadcast outside.

Further on, and we have the latest batch of gigs from `One Step
Behind`. As I keep saying, if you've not seen them, you really need
to get along to one of their shows as soon as possible. You will
not be disappointed.

Mourners including Robbie Williams and Cabinet Office Minister Mo 
Mowlam joined 250 mourners at the funeral of rock star Ian Dury, who
died last week. 

A traditional horse and carriage led the cortege from Belsize Park, 
North London, picking up mourners from his family home in Hampstead
and passing near Kilburn High Road, which gave its name to his first
band. 

A pair of Friesian horses with black plumes drew a glass-sided 
carriage containing his coffin, draped in a black cloth. 

Members of the band Madness acted as his pall-bearers at Golders 
Green crematorium. 

Dury, who died after a long battle with cancer aged 57, was one of 
their inspirations and performed on their recent single Drip Fed 
Fred. 

Robbie Williams travelled to Sri Lanka with Dury in 1998 to work for
the charity Unicef, while Mo Mowlam was a fan of the singer, who had
seen him in concert weeks before he died. 

Other mourners included BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale, who 
championed Dury's career in the late 1970s, and musician Nick Lowe, 
a label-mate of his on Stiff Records. 

Humanist Annette Furley, who conducted the service, said: "He was 
one of the few original personalities in the music business. 

"He used to write music that made you want to dance and also made 
you laugh. 

"He was aware that he couldn't sing but he knew that he had a good
feeling for tempo and rhythm. 

"When told a year ago he was going to die, in true Ian style his 
reaction was 'Oh blimey'." 

Speaking of his love for his two youngest children, Bill and Albert,
Ms Furley added: "The only time he became sad about his illness was
when he knew he would not see them grow up. 

"He inspired all those around him and changed people's lives. Many 
people have said what they did because of Ian." 

"He continued to gig even through his illness and he never lost his
sense of humour. Even on the day he died he was still telling jokes." 

There were more than 60 wreaths for the singer, many of them 
tongue-in-cheek. 

One was a floral tribute in the shape of a pint of Guinness, another
shaped like a guitar, and one from Madness, reading "Uncle Ian from 
Madness". 

Others read "Oi Oi", "Dad", and "Durex" - a play on his name. 

His second wife, sculptor Sophy Tilson, was at the crematorium, 
along with their children Bill and Albert. His grown-up children, 
Jemima and Baxter, from his first marriage to Betty, were also there. 

Many watched the service on a TV screen outside. 

Dury's band, The Blockheads, performed a song on which he had worked
with them in the week before his death. 

After the service, Robbie Williams called him a "wonderful man". 

"Because of Ian I went to Sri Lanka with Unicef. I am off to 
Mozambique this year to carry on Ian's work," the singer said. 

"He's been an inspiration - as a person and as a musician - and my 
thoughts are with his family and friends. May he rest in peace." 

Mourners then continued the service by heading to the Forum venue in 
Kentish Town, where Dury performed when it was called the Town and 
Country Club.

On Valentines day this year one Madness fan spread the word to the
masses by appearing on Irelands `Near FM` radio station. This fan was
none other than `Madness Unsugged` editor in chief, Vince Carden who
was the guest on 101.6 FM's weekly `Ska Patrol` programme. 

Presented by J.B, the show was a lighthearted yet informative 
affair for any self-respecting Madness fan. For those not totally
clued-up about the recent Madness goings-on, Vince kindly provided us
with some background info about the recently released album, 
Wonderful. Madness die-hards were also fully catered for with Vince 
dishing out a story behind almost all the songs aired during the 
show. Telling us how the tracks came to be, and also giving his own 
views about each tune, the show was a must for Madness fans. 

During the hour long show, Vince and host JB managed to cram in the
following Madness classics;

2 - Lovestruck
3 - The Communicator
4 - I Was The One
5 - Drip Fed Fred
6 - My Old Man
7 - Embarassment
8 - Elysium
9 - Johnny The Horse
10 - Dreaming Man

In between Vince's words of wisdom, `Ska Patrols` host, JB was
encouraging Vince to announce details of his fanzine over the air.
The station also promised to provide listeners with all the 
information about the fanzine if they phoned in asking for the
details. Hopefully this brought a few more subscribers on board for
what is undoubtedly an excellent fanzine.

To finish, the show ended with the legendary `One Step Beyond` and
`Shadow of Fear`. OSB being JB's choice as Vince had chosen the rest
aired over the hour long programme.

I thought the show was really interesting and enjoyable. Perhaps 
`Ska Patrol` will invite Vince back to the station in the not too 
distant future to record a second show. We can but hope.
